Exercise Stress Test


   This is a primary checking for diagnosis and prognosis of cardiovascular disease for patients with a normal or near-normal resting electrocardiogram who are capable of adequate exercise. The test is performed in order to help the doctor indentify abnormal heart rhythms, to evaluate the effectiveness of cardiac treatment plan and to help develop a safe exercise program.

People who should be tested

   The test could be ordered by a cardiologist for people who have been experiencing chest pain, be tired easily, irregular heartbeats or any other symptoms of coronary heart disease.

Preparation before the test

  • Avoid taking heavy food, smoking or drinking caffeinated beverages for three hours before the test. It is allowed to eat some light food, for example, congee or rice soup.
  • Stop taking some medications if the doctor tells to do so, for example, cardiovascular, hypertension medicines, etc.
